The Process of Copy Typing a Manuscript

There is no minimum sized project requirement and no work is outsourced. I can work from handwritten, typed or printed materials, roughly typed drafts or books, loose pages, notepads, pocket books, PDFs, etc. The document can be styled to your instructions or set out in a standard UK manuscript format. I am happy to apply a light touch to punctuation etc., but other than the correction of spelling and online verification of people/place names, etc., the price excludes any editorial input. I can also insert photographs or images, or include placeholders.

Getting the Manuscript Materials To Me

I can receive materials via a recorded postal service, courier, hand-delivery (depending on your location), file upload, etc. I can also transcribe digital audio files in multiple formats which can be e-mailed or uploaded via a file upload service.

Working Remotely But Staying in Touch

As all work is undertaken remotely from my location, I encourage as much two-way communication as possible via phone and e-mail, so as to ensure a clear understanding of what is required and so you are aware of what will happen while the project is ongoing.

Please read on for the finer details concerning the process of typing a manuscript.

What Will the Finished Manuscript Look Like?

All manuscript documents are created in Microsoft Word format (.docx). At the start, the first few pages are typed and e-mailed as a draft for your review and comment.

Once the typing phase is complete, the document is spellchecked using the MS Word automated spellchecking feature, then fully proofread from a printed copy. Care is then applied to finalising even the most minutest of things, such as removing excess behind-the-scenes formatting anomalies, checking for general consistency of layout, punctuation, spelling, etc., plus ensuring the accuracy of the Table of Contents, page numbering, page breaks, etc.

Any queries relating to the work are shown as red text within the document, plus a typist's comment where required and cross-referenced page numbers where possible.

How is the New Manuscript Document Sent?

Upon completion of the work, and following cleared payment of any outstanding balance, the document will be e-mailed as an attachment and original materials returned. Alternatively, the document can be supplied on a CD/DVD or memory stick.

Manuscript Typing Timescales

The size of your manuscript will naturally dictate the timescales, which are agreed before commencement of the project. This will be confirmed at the point of acceptance and I maintain regular communication via e-mail progress updates throughout the project to assure you that the work is ongoing.

Sending, Storing and Returning Your Manuscript Materials

It is strongly advised that a full copy of supplied materials is retained by you and that a registered postal service or courier is used when sending physical materials. Alternatively, hand-delivery is possible, depending on your location. A file upload facility is also available for sending electronic documents (PDFs, audio files).

Whilst in my possession, your materials will be stored in a smoke- and pet-free environment, and kept in a metal lockable filing cabinet. Upon project completion and receipt of final payment, your original materials will be carefully packaged and returned to you via Royal Mail recorded delivery. An e-mail confirming despatch will be sent containing a Royal Mail tracking code.

You will be amazed at the visual transformation of your work as it is styled into a professionally typed Word document. And as I undertake each manuscript typing project personally, you are assured of a far more personalised and tailored service.

Thank you for trusting me with your important project.
